The EZ-Step is the creation of Ron Wallum, who came up with the idea in 1989. It was a solution to help his active, 83-year old mother with the ten-step stairway leading to her second-floor apartment. Ron's mother was suffering from arthritis at the time and she found that the EZ-Step made it possible for her to go to and from her apartment unassisted. She subsequently underwent two hip replacement operations over the course of a year and a half. Ron adapted an EZ-Step to a cane so his mother could take it with her wherever she went. In fact, within just two weeks of her return home from the hospital after the first hip replacement, and with the help of her 'new' EZ-Step Stair Climbing Cane, she was able to leave her apartment and go to the Senior Center to see her friends for dinner.
Two cousins, Myron and Duane Loberg further developed the product thru the years to assist their own mother and countless thousands of other persons with ambulatory issues.
The company was sold in 2014 to John Stocker, who decided that the EZ-Step base needed to be made in the United States. Along with some other improvements such as larger rubber grommet feet, lighter weight and additional colors, the EZ-Step Stair Climbing Cane will continue to offer solutions to help those in need to remain Independent!
