  • How EZ-Step was created

EZ-Step is the creation of Ron Wallum, who came up with the idea in 1989, to help his active, 83-year old mother with the ten-step stairway leading up to her second-floor apartment. Ron's mother was suffering from arthritis at the time and she found that EZ-STEP made it possible for her to go to and from her apartment unassisted. She subsequently underwent two hip replacement operations over the course of a year and a half. In fact, within just two weeks of her return home from the hospital after the first hip replacement, with the help of EZ-Step, she was able to leave her apartment and go to the Senior Center for dinner.

University Study compares EZ-Step to normal steps

    The University of North Dakota
, Physical Therapy Department, conducted a comparitive study of muscle activity and the range of motion (ROM) required to ascend and descend a normal stairway and the same stairway equiped with EZ-Step.  The results showed a marked reduction in the amount of muscle activity required to both ascend and descend as well as marked reduction in the ROM required to use the EZ-Step equiped stairway.
